Food Security and Poverty Awareness

Recently the Community Food Centers Canada shared a post on social media and MSS felt it was important to reshare the information here.

This is a cause MSS frequently tries to raise awareness for. As our structures often help provide food security to those who need it most, and we do work with CSAs and food banks and other similar projects, we want to share this, to remind everyone today and everyday that this is an important issue we need to take action on.

MSS regularly donates portions of our sales to help Indigenous communities get clean water, the breakfast club of Canada, food grains foodbank and others. If you know of a similar cause we could put our support behind, please let us know.

It is only through taking action together that we can truly impact change for a better world.

This was their post:

For us, it’s not a coincidence that World Food Day (October 16) and the Day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17) are so close together.

Our work has shown us that food insecurity and poverty are interconnected, two sides of the same coin. And as the cost of living increases and the pandemic continues, 1 in 7 Canadians are facing tough choices because they can’t afford basic necessities. Rent or dinner? Medication or a family meal?

We believe that everyone deserves to put good food on the table. The federal government can make a real difference for Canadians by investing in progressive income policies and ensuring progress is achieved equitably.

Hunger Awareness Week

At Multi Shelter Solutions, we are committed to helping eliminate food insecurity and people going hungry. During the pandemic earlier this year, we were fortunate to be considered an essential service due to providing structures to grow food and take care of various equipment, animals and other tasks on the farm.

We have helped numerous food banks, particularly associated with schools, to help grow food for the people who need to use them. Partnering with schools, this also allows the ability to teach the kids how to grow the food that they, and their families, are eating.

This future planning and thinking is a sustainable way for all of humanity. With this week being Hunger Awareness week, we want to highlight this special cause and initiative, that is needed all year long. Through our Giving Back program at Multi Shelters, we have donated to various charities that provide food, as well as donating structures to communities in need. If you or someone you know has an organization that could benefit from this, please reach out and have a discussion from Norm about how Multi Shelters can partner with you to help make food insecurity a less prominent concern in our society. And please, if you see someone in need and can help, please do. We are all connected, we are all one.

Giving Back to Our Community

Every year at Multi Shelter Solutions we try to collaborate with non profit organizations and other volunteer opportunities to provide a shelter at low or no cost.

We have done shelters for Haiti after the earthquake, a shelter for an eye clinic in the Dominican Republic, arches for Magical Lights of Milton that donates back to the Milton Hospital at Christmas, greenhouse to Aroland First Nations in Northern Ontario to provide food for their community and learning opportunities for the students, and work with Food Bank projects out on the east coast to help provide fresh, healthy vegetables to those most in need, and the list continues to grow. See photos on our “giving back” page.

This is something we believe whole heartedly in and would very much like to work with more causes to help in whatever way we can.  We also want to express gratitude for the various opportunities we’ve had to help out non-profit and not-for-profit groups.

If you know of a project that could use our help, or are involved with something you’d like to see us put some help behind, please don’t hesitate to contact us and let us know about it. This is an ongoing initiative of Multi Shelter Solutions, and as a company, and all our staff, would love to see this continue. Please join us in taking some time to give back, and Pay It Forward. A little smile goes a long way.
